چکیده

The incorporation of l-[(14)C]ornithine and [(14)C]putrescine into putrescine, spermidine, and spermine in type 5 adenovirus-infected KB cells was identical to that in uninfected control cells early in infection, but incorporation into putrescine stopped after 8 to 12 h and the rate of incorporation into spermidine was reduced between 12 and 20 h after infection. The amount of polyamines found associated with purified virus could neutralize a maximum of 3 to 4% of the virus DNA, but the small quantities of polyamines detected could not be distinguished from nonspecific binding of polyamines to virions. These data suggest that polyamines are probably not integral components of adenovirus particles.

Structure and function of adenovirus type 12 defective virions.

Purified human adenovirus type 12 preparations contain defective virions with a lighter density. These defective virions were isolated, and their biological functions and DNA were characterized. They can induce early and late antigens in infected cells and tumors in newborn hamsters with similar efficiency as complete virions. The majority of the DNA molecules from light virions contain deletio...

Mechanism by which fiber antigen inhibits multiplication of type 5 adenovirus.

Purified fiber antigen of type 5 adenovirus inhibited the multiplication of type 5 adenovirus by 50% when 35 mug of fiber antigen protein was added to 10(6) KB cells in suspension culture. Although the fiber antigen reduced the number of virions adsorbed per cell when a multiplicity of infection of 50,000 plaque-forming units (PFU)/cell was employed, the number of cells infected was not diminis...

Characterization of a temperature-sensitive fiber mutant of type 5 adenovirus and effect of the mutation on virion assembly.

A temperature-sensitive, fiber-minus mutant of type 5 adenovirus, H5ts142, was biochemically and genetically characterized. Genetic studies revealed that H5ts142 was a member of one of the three apparent fiber complementation groups which were detected owing to intracistronic complementation. Recombination analyses showed that it occupied a unique locus at the right end of the adenovirus geneti...

Effects of Sodium Valproate on the Replication of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1: An in Vitro Study

Background: Sodium valproate, an anticonvulsant drug, is reported to stimulate Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 and Human cytomegalovirus replication. Since epileptic patients undergoing sodium valproate therapy may suffer from various virus infections, the effect of this drug on replication of viruses especially those affecting neuronal tissues such as Herpes simplex virus type 1 is worthy ...

A human cell line selected for resistance to adenovirus infection has reduced levels of the virus receptor.

To investigate determinants of host cell susceptibility to infection, cells partially resistant to infection were selected from the rare cells which remained adherent after infection of a culture of A549 cells with Ad2RAE, a mutant of adenovirus type 2 whose vertex capsomers lack an Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) sequence which mediates binding of wild-type virus to integrins. Integrins promote the internal...
